Our Poipu beach condos are located just steps from the beautiful Poipu beaches. Be sure to follow these tips to ensure a safe vacation for the whole family!

BEACH SAFETY TIPS

‍

Never turn your back on the ocean! – Mai huli ‘oe I kokua o kea kai!
Swim at beaches with lifeguards.
Check with lifeguards for conditions.
Read and observe posted sign warnings.
Watch children carefully. Hold on to the younger ones.
Watch the surf for at least 15 minutes before entering the water.
Never attempt to swim at the water’s edge during high surf.
Never surf or body board on big waves unless you are an expert.
Never rely on the board or leash as a substitute for swimming ability.
Never swim in high surf if you are not a strong swimmer.
Do not drink alcohol or do drugs and swim.
Watch out for yourself and other people’s surfing crafts if you wipe out.
If in doubt, just stay out!

POIPU BEACH DESCRIPTIONS

Baby Beach

‍

This is located within walking distance to the west of Whalers Cove. It is accessible from Hoona Road. As the name suggests, this is a little cove perfect for young children.

Brennecke’s Beach

‍

Down the road to the south of Poipu Beach, Brennecke’s Beach is well-known as Kauai’s best boogie boarding and bodysurfing spot.

Poipu Beach *Life Guard

‍

This is the most popular beach fronted by Poipu Beach Park. Recently, the Travel Channel named it America’s Best Beach. It has also been ranked in the “Top Ten Best” beaches selected nationwide. Poipu Beach is ideal for snorkeling, swimming, wading, boogie boarding, and surfing. For the children, there is a cove suitable for playing and swimming.

Shipwreck Beach

Turn right one block past the Hyatt onto Ainoko Road to get to Shipwreck Beach. This is another lovely beach fronted by the Hyatt Regency Kauai and a county park facility. The water here is best for advanced surfers and swimmers due to a short shore-break and strong currents. However, this is a great beach for exercise, wading, and sunbathing.

Mahaulepu Beach

This beach is located further east of the Hyatt Regency Kauai, about a 2-mile trip from the end of Poipu Road, however, visitors must hike in. Visitors need to park by CJM stables or Shipwreck Beach to hike in. As access to this beach is along private property, we ask that you respectfully adhere to all rules to ensure future public access. This is a popular beach with locals and visitors, including wind surfers, advanced swimmers, fishermen (and fisherwomen) and sunbathers.

BEACHES AROUND THE ISLAND

Hanalei Bay *Life Guard

‍

You can find Hanalei Bay on the northern tip of the Island just past Princeville. This famous 2-mile shoreline is excellent for walking. In the summer, it’s great for boogie boarding, but in the winter, the waves can get dangerous due to high surf. Although there are lifeguards on duty, it’s still a good idea to exercise caution. There are other park facilities here as well.

Kalapaki Beach

‍

This is an ideal location for sunbathing, swimming, and sailing. Kalapaki Beach is located in Lihue in front of the Royal Sonesta.

Ke’e Beach *Life Guard

‍

This beach is on the north side of Kauai at the end of the road. This is one of the most popular snorkeling sites on Kauai’s north shore, but only during summer months. During the winter, you can expect high surf and dangerous currents. The location of the beach is the starting point for the northern end of the Hanakapi’ai and Kalalau hiking trails.

Lydgate Beach *Life Guard

On the east side of the Island, Lydgate Beach has a lifeguard tower, restrooms, showers, and picnic pavilions. This beach is just before Wailua. Two man-made pools were created in the ocean; one large pool and the other one is small and shallow. This is a great spot for snorkeling. Look for a large playground located in the shade of the trees (in the park area, not near the beach).

Prince Kuhio Break (PKs for short)

This beach is a few minutes west of Baby Beach on Hoona Road. When the waves are big, sit on the sand and watch some of Kauai’s best surfers ride the waves.

Salt Pond Beach *Life Guard

‍

On the west side of the Island, this beach offers another scenic ocean setting for visitors and locals alike. Park facilities include a lifeguard tower, picnic pavilions, restrooms, showers, and is available for camping. Salt Pond Beach is partially protected by a reef. Rocks that formed a small lagoon make it an ideal bathing pool area for toddlers.
